Dr Yang Sun
Dr Sun obtained his medical degree from the University of Melbourne in 2002 and completed postgraduate surgical training throughout Queensland. After passing the Urology Fellowship examination in 2012 he completed his first of two years post-fellowship training at the Gold Coast Hospital, practising general urology with an emphasis on stone disease, prostate and bladder cancer.
He moved to London in 2014 to complete further subspecialty training at The Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, a quaternary referral centre. He gained high-volume experience in advanced renal cell carcinoma, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for testicular germ cell tumours and robotic prostatectomy and cystectomy. Dr Sun returned to practice as Consultant Urological Surgeon at the Gold Coast University Hospital in February 2015 and commenced private practice, servicing Allamanda and Pindara Private hospitals.
As a Principal Investigator at the Gold Coast University Hospital, Dr Sun is involved in clinical research with the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Institute. He is actively recruiting patients for national and international trials, in collaboration with the Princess Alexandra Hospital and Queensland University of Technology. He is also involved in the ongoing training of junior medical staff, nursing staff and medical students on the Gold Coast.
Dr Sun offers a full range of urological procedures including minimally invasive stone surgery, laparoscopy, robotic and open surgery. His practice interests include: offering a rapid assessment and diagnostic service for patients with haematuria and urinary symptoms, ‘prostate issues’ including BPH and prostate cancer, renal cell carcinoma and germ cell tumours. Dr Sun is able to speak Mandarin if preferred by some patients.
